Port of Sines closes the 1st International Conference on Digital Transition and Decarbonization

The Port of Sines hosted the closing of the first edition of the NEXUS International Conference: Digital and Green Transition in Sea Ports: Trends and Challenges (DGTMP 2024).


The meeting, which took place between the 10th and 13th of December, promoted by the Sines and Algarve Port Administration (APS) and the University of Évora (EU), in partnership with the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS), the University of Coimbra (UC), the University of Aveiro (UA), CYTED, and MED&Chang, brought together experts from maritime ports, specialists in sustainability and technological innovation and researchers from the maritime sector from different parts of the world to discuss the direction of digital logistics and sustainable mobility in seaports.


Over the two days taking place in Sines, the Conference, which opened with José Luís Cacho, CEO of the Port of Sines, featured Pascal Ollivier, IAPH Data Collaboration Committee, as Keynote Speaker, and speakers such as Nico de Cauwer, Secretary General of IPCSA – International Port Community Systems Association, Tony Zhong, Chief Information Security Officer of the Port of Los Angeles, Reyer Will, Project Manager of the MAGPIE Project of the Port of Rotterdam, Sin Yee LOH, Regional Director for Europe of the MPA – Maritime and Port Authority from Singapore, Rogacioano Rebelo, CEO of MADOQUA, among many other experts from different areas.
The event addressed topics such as the digitalization of ports and the technological and environmental sustainability of the logistics chain, in discussion panels on “Digital and Green Transition in the port and logistics sector”; “Cybersecurity and cyber resilience” and “Green Corridors”.


The initiative, inserted in the context of the NEXUS Agenda Innovation Pact, within the scope of the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), promoted the exchange of experiences, research and trends in the areas of digital logistics and sustainable mobility in ports, crucial for the increasing the competitiveness of ports and associated port communities, contributing to the environmental, operational, energy and digital sustainability of the entire supply chain.
The NEXUS Agenda International Conference has established itself as a milestone in the integration of technological advances and sustainable strategies, contributing to strengthening the efficiency and resilience of the sector, preparing it for a greener and more sustainable future.


It is worth remembering that the Nexus Agenda, financed by the PRR, is an innovation agenda led by APS, together with a network of 35 partners representing the entire logistics chain, which aims to develop 28 innovative products and services with a view to decarbonizing the logistics corridor served by the Port of Sines.
