Ports of Sines and Algarve and Ports of Madeira Strengthen Strategic Cooperation

Innovation and digitalization at the service of energy sustainability and territorial cohesion.

In a clear demonstration of joint commitment to the green and digital transition, the Ports of Sines and Algarve and the Ports of Madeira have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding in the fields of innovation and digitalization, thereby consolidating an already longstanding partnership.

With the purpose of further deepening institutional cooperation and establishing a shared strategy for the development of structuring projects, this agreement places particular emphasis on the implementation and enhancement of the National Maritime Single Window (JUL – Janela Única Logística), as well as on a number of innovative solutions advanced within the framework of the NEXUS Agenda.

Drawing upon the technical expertise and unique operational characteristics of each port, this partnership between APS and APRAM seeks to guarantee the long-term sustainability of the JUL, while promoting a collaborative model that underscores territorial cohesion and reinforces Portugal’s leadership in driving the digital transformation of the maritime-port sector.

Aligned with the strategic objective of strengthening integration and knowledge-sharing across the national port network, Sines and Madeira are also collaborating within the scope of the NEXUS Agenda on the development of the Open Data Platform. This integrated digital platform for monitoring and management offers real-time and predictive insights into port and logistics operations, serving as a strategic and operational coordination hub. By aggregating data from multiple systems, it enables faster, more collaborative, and better-informed decision-making processes.

Furthermore, the Memorandum establishes the foundation for a cybersecurity partnership, underpinned by the activities of the Port Cyber Arena. This state-of-the-art infrastructure represents a key strategic asset for the reinforcement of cyber-resilience across the national port and logistics system.
