The main goal of the Smart Train Operations package is to develop a group of innovative products and services based on modal interoperability that have the ability to work together with other systems and technologies that allow data to flow between them with minimal human intervention. This includes equipping railway rolling stock with a comprehensive range of sensors and implementing infrastructure improvements to optimize driving, safety, energy efficiency and the environmental impact of rail transport.
All these services are integrated into NEXUS vision, ensuring complete interoperability with other applications across the global project.
There are three main products resulting from this package, the:
- Connected Driver Advisory System;
- Smart Train Solutions;
- Train Capacity Management Solution.
At the current technological stage, the partners involved possess a high level of expertise and capability. However, the development of this platform and its associated services requires notable investment in innovation to reach a high TRL (level of technological readiness for the product to enter the market) and to prepare for future valuation.
Aiming to drive innovation in the following areas:
- Smart wagons equipped with a complete set of sensors to monitor key performance factors.
- Communications between the wagons and the port’s terminals.
- Innovate solutions for driving optimization towards automatic train operations (ATO).
- Smart systems that optimize shunting, loading, and unload operations at ports and terminals.
These innovations will contribute to creating more efficient, safer, and sustainable rail and port operations, supporting the future of smart transportation.
